MAGICAL HOSEIN – Trinbago Knight Riders won the 2022 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) opener by three wickets over last year’s finalists, Saint Lucia Kings, thanks to a brilliant bowling spell from Akeal Hosein.

The Saint Lucia Kings had a rough start, losing openers Johnson Charles and Leroy Lugg in the batting powerplay. Mark Deyal began to rebuild with fluent batting, but Hosein took three wickets, including Deyal and captain Roston Chase, in the 13th over. Early in the chase, the Trinbago Knight Riders suffered significant setbacks, losing the wickets of Sunil Narine and Nicholas Pooran, who were both caught out trying to clear the boundary. Magical Hosein Opener Webster led the comeback, scoring 58 runs on 45 balls with help from partner Tim Seifert. The Saint Lucia Kings fought back, taking the wickets of Webster and Andre Russell, with an outstanding catch from Lugg sending him back to the pavilion.
Alzarri Joseph dismissed Seifert and captain Kieron Pollard in the nineteenth over before striking with his final ball to dismiss Seekkugge Prasanna and set up a tense finish. In the end, Anderson Phillip hit a six to get the Knight Riders over the line.
